Web Effectiveness Influences Admissions and
Enrollment Decisions

As a provider of Web content management software and Web development services to colleges and universities, including Johns Hopkins, Loyola College, Northwestern and Tulane, Systems Alliance was interested in understanding the beliefs and attitudes about Web effectiveness shared by college executives. To gain insight into this subject, in May 2008, we surveyed 1,000 college executives and administrators with titles including President, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and Directors of Admissions, Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations.

Sample of Survey Results:

  • 92% of respondents strongly agreed that a college’s Website plays a substantial role in the admissions process
  • 80% believe their Websites are effectively attracting and engaging students in the admissions process
  • 52% believe their institutions could improve their use of student-contributed content
  • 68% of respondents agreed that Web content designed for parents is a factor of influence, but
  • 60% are concerned that they are not effectively engaging parents
