On Tuesday, March 29, SAIS hosted a discussion on "Public Diplomacy and Social Media in Latin America" featuring Judith McHale, U.S. under secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, and Nelson Cunningham, chair of NDN's Latin America Policy Initiative. The event also featured a panel discussion with Christopher Sabatini, senior director of policy at the Americas Society and Council of the Americas; Carlos Ponce, Reagan Fascell Democracy Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy; Oscar Salazar, founder and CEO of Citivox and co-founder of Cuidemos el Voto; Ricardo Amado Castillo, consultant and researcher with George Washington University; and Sam DuPont (moderator), policy analyst at NDN and the New Policy Institute.

This video captured segments of the SAIS 2011 Crisis Simulation held March 4-6 in Washington, D.C. The simulation included more than 100 students as well numerous SAIS faculty and staff. The simulation was set in the summer of 2016 during the run-up to a U.S. presidential election. The United States is the pre-eminent power but focused inward. Iraq and Iran are dominant regional powers in the Middle East. China and India are gaining power in Asia, and Europe is slowly recovering. The simulation tested the following question: How do major international and intra-regional powers respond to regional power transitions in light of a reduced U.S. footprint?

4/1/1998 -- Mr. Gordon speaks at The Johns Hopkins University. He served on the Cordoba and Aragon fronts during the Spanish Civil War and was wounded during the Ebro battle.
He was a noted harmonica player who once rubbed elbows with the likes of Patrick Clancy.
Mr. Gordon also participated in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in April 1945 as a sergeant in the Combat Engineers of the Seventh US Army.
