Thoughts and advice for better Web content management
Title: Multi-Site Management Should be Easy

A recent post by Eric Brown on CMSWire about multi-site management in leading open source Web CMS platforms made me realize we’ve done a poor job of explaining this functionality in SiteExecutive. According to Eric,

“Most organizations are looking for a single solution to manage multiple sites – whether they be microsites for marketing campaigns or fully fledged Websites. This means multi-site management capabilities are becoming a critical differentiator for Web CMS solutions...”

Enabling multi-site management with the open source CMS products highlighted in Eric’s article: Plone, Joomla and Drupal, requires a collection of third-party plug-ins. Surprise, these third-party apps are not always free or easy to implement – and sometimes they don't deliver a secure, complete solution.

SiteExecutive enables multi-site management out of the box. Key features and capabilities include:

  • Ability to spawn and manage multiple sites from a single SiteExecutive instance
  • User permissioning and isolation down to the object level on any individual site
  • Workflow applied to the object level on any individual site
  • Content syndication across one or multiple sites
  • Replicate entire sites for development testing
  • Manage all modules and applications from a single interface
  • Integration with Active Directory or LDAP for easier management of large user communities

Bottom line: If you’re a developer and have plenty of time, resources and a patient user community, delivering multi-site management with an open source CMS might be a good idea. If you’re looking for a secure, proven approach to multi-site management that works out of the box, we think you’ll find SiteExecutive the way to go.
